Carmelo's

Nestled in the heart of Tottington at 1 Chapel St, Carmelo’s stands out as a warm, inviting spot for anyone seeking comfort food done with flair. Whether you're popping in for a solo lunch or winding down with friends over a glass of red, this place has the kind of charm that turns a simple meal into a memorable experience.

The first thing that hits you walking in is the vibe-it’s relaxed, with gentle lighting and the hum of good conversation. There's often live music drifting in the background, adding a touch of atmosphere without being overpowering. Accessibility is thoughtfully designed here too, with wheelchair-friendly entrances, parking, and restrooms. Everything feels considered.

Now, let’s talk food. Carmelo’s takes the classics and makes them sing. Their Garlic Bread isn’t just a side dish-it’s the kind of starter that disappears in seconds. Pillowy-soft, buttery, and packed with flavour, it sets the tone for what’s to come. Fans of Italian comfort food will feel right at home with their Lasagne, generously layered and bubbling with just the right amount of cheese. The Calzone, folded like a gift from the kitchen, is stuffed with rich fillings that don’t hold back.

Seafood lovers won’t be left behind either. The Sea Bass is crisp-skinned and cooked to perfection, while the Seafood Pizza is a hearty, well-balanced blend of fresh ingredients that doesn’t skimp on topping. For something slightly different, their Fettucine Angelina brings creaminess and depth, especially comforting on chillier days.

And yes, Carmelo’s isn’t shy about indulgence. Their Tiramisu has that ideal balance between espresso-soaked sponge and fluffy mascarpone. Prefer something even richer? The Chocolate Fudge Cake hits deep, especially when paired with a scoop of vanilla or a strong Espresso. Those with a sweet tooth might also appreciate the more unusual Coffee Cake or even a light Biscotti to nibble alongside an after-dinner Manhattan or Champagne.

Drink-wise, the selection here is solid. A curated wine list features well-paired reds and whites, with Red Wine clearly a house favorite. Cocktails are available for those who prefer something shaken, while beer lovers will also find a good variety to choose from. Carmelo’s takes its beverages seriously, and it shows-from a simple coffee to a celebration-ready bottle of bubbly.

What truly ties the experience together is the pace and personality of service. Staff are friendly, attentive without hovering, and always happy to make recommendations-whether that’s steering you towards their Chicken a La Crema or suggesting a well-poured glass to match. They even offer afternoon tea, which is perfect for a more relaxed mid-day treat.

For those craving late-night bites, Carmelo’s keeps the kitchen open late, serving up everything from hearty meals to lighter options. The venue also caters well to health-conscious diners, with healthy options peppered throughout the menu, all without compromising flavor.

While dine-in is the only service available-no delivery or takeaway-the atmosphere here is exactly why you'd want to sit and stay a while. It’s the kind of place where every table seems to be enjoying something different, and you can’t help but peek to see what dish just passed by.

From solo lunches to group dinners, casual wine nights to live music weekends, Carmelo’s brings consistency, comfort, and character to the dining scene in Bury. Whether you’re here for the mussels, the Gambas Al Ajillo, or just a simple drink and dessert, there's a sense that Carmelo’s doesn’t just serve food-it serves up a good time.

A lovely Italian in the centre of Tottington. I had the Sea Bass which was great, all my friends enjoyed their dishes and my friends folded meat feast of a pizza off the special menu looked, and she said, tasted great. I definitely recommend you book as it was very busy at 7pm on a Thursday evening, so service was a little slow and some of the items on the menu were finished. Lovely quirky decor with lots of imitation flowers and trees festooned with fairy lights, mixed up with Italian moped and statues, very romantic.

Over a period of years, we have found we keep returning to Carmello's. The price point is spot on (I always feel we have good value), the service is brilliant and the food is fabulous. Strangely, my wife and I don't eat wheat or potato (which basically would normally rule out an Italian) but they always look after us and we have wonderful dishes and they just swap out the spuds for more veg. Well done all - keep up the good work.
